Horses were an unexpected victim of the revolt against Egypt’s president Mubarak in 2011. The animals that were used to carry around tourists were the only source of income for their owners. Once the protests started, the tourists stopped visiting Egypt and the owners could no longer afford to feed their animals. This photo was taken a few months prior to the start of the ‘Arab spring’.
